The EU has strict food safety requirements for imported aquatic products, including pesticide and veterinary drug residues, biotoxins, heavy metal content, microbiological contamination, etc., while China still faces many challenges in the safety control of aquatic products in aquaculture, processing and export. Therefore, a comparative analysis of the current Chinese and EU legislation governing the safety and the traceability of fishery products will be an important research direction. Starting from the study of the competent authorities responsible for food safety in Europe and China, and their respective regulatory frameworks, this comparative analysis could provide a theoretical support for better understanding the main existing differences, and consequently, identifying import and export requirements between China and Europe.
