thefaculty: the free app supporting students in preparing for the new Open Semester Posted on 4 August 2026 The 2026/2027 academic year confirms and consolidates the Open Semester, the new admission system for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. Open Semester 2026: how does it work? With the Open Semester, all students will be able to freely enrol in the first semester of the degree programmes in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine.The first semester will therefore be open to all students and will conclude with three compulsory national examinations, which will represent the actual selection stage: Chemistry and Biochemistry Foundations (6 ECTS) Physics (6 ECTS) Biology (6 ECTS) How to prepare for the Open Semester? Prepare with thefaculty the exams of the Open Semester! The University of Pisa, together with 43 other universities, is a partner of the MOOD project, funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), which led to the development of the thefaculty platform. The platform was designed to support and guide students preparing to undertake the Open Semester.The app offers useful tools to consolidate the knowledge required for admission tests and to approach the university pathway with greater awareness through: Self-assessment pathways by subject and topic; Practice exercises and mock tests structured according to admission; Customisable tests to practise on specific subject areas and difficulty levels; Educational content and multimedia resources accessible at any time; Interactive tools for dynamic and collaborative learning. Thanks to the platform, students can monitor their progress, identify areas for improvement and independently organise their own preparation pathway.
