Why choose the PhD programme

The aim of the PhD program in Veterinary Sciences is to develop research aimed at updating and improving veterinary practice, animal production, and animal welfare. The PhD program in Veterinary Sciences is part of the University of Pisa’s PHD+ program, which aims to promote and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation among PhD students.

The program aims to train and qualify independent, specialised research staff. PhD students must also develop and demonstrate a strong aptitude for teamwork and multidisciplinarity. Students will be trained to integrate into existing work plans at public and private institutions and will be prepared to independently develop new research projects within the disciplines covered by the program.

PhD students take part in a series of seminars on entrepreneurial projects led by international experts in innovation and technology transfer. It is compulsory for candidates to spend a period of study and/or research abroad in order to improve their language skills and acquire research techniques, thereby enriching their training.
