Erasmus Mobility

The Erasmus mobility programme welcomes incoming students to our Department for a period of study or traineeship, offering an enriching academic environment and valuable international experience.

Erasmus mobility for study

Courses

The Department of Veterinary Sciences offers the following degree programmes:

Language of instruction: Italian.


The activation of elective courses in the English language is subject to a minimum number of requests and is subject to variations according to the collected requests of all incoming Erasmus students and local students.

Incoming students can send an email to international@vet.unipi.it to receive the list of available elective courses held in English.

Please note:

  • Free activities of the Veterinary Medicine” Master’s Degree will be activated only if three Erasmus students or five students (both Italian and Erasmus) choose them; these courses are delivered only in the Spring Term (mid-February-July).
  • Free activities of the “Animal Production Science and Technology”, Animal Breeding Techniques and Dog Training” and “Sustainability of Animal Production Systems” Degrees can be delivered both in the Winter Term and/or in the Spring Term.

All courses offered by the University of Pisa are listed in the ECTS Catalogue, which provides detailed descriptions and credits.

International students can attend Courses of Italian language and culture, organised by the University Language Centre, to improve their language skills during their stay.

Nomination deadline and procedure

  • First semester (Autumn term) and full year: June 30
  • Second semester (Spring term): November 15

Erasmus incoming students must complete theLearning Agreement” process before their mobility. Then, they will need to apply on the Erasmus Mobility Portal (further instructions will be sent by the International Office).

Language requirement

Italian A2 level certified (CILS, CELI, DELI A2, PLIDA A2, or any certificate/declaration issued by any local school of Italian Language of the student’s home country). The certificate must be provided at the time of the online application.

Before your arrival

1. Learning Agreement Before the Mobility

It is necessary to finalise the Learning Agreement Before the Mobility in accordance with the coordinators of the sending and hosting location. To choose the subjects of your interest, please see our available teaching offer in the ECTS Catalogue.

2. Register for the Alice Portal

Please follow the instructions available here and wait for 48 hours before proceeding to the next step.

3. Activate your UNIPI credentials

Access the service through the following link and enter the tax code generated on the Alice portal.

4. Apply on the Erasmus Mobility Portal

The following documents must be uploaded:

  • Learning Agreement Before the Mobility duly signed by all three parties (sending institution, receiving institution, and student);
  • Copy of your identification document (ID card or passport, in PDF format);
  • A passport-style photo (in JPG, PDF, or PNG format);
  • Proof of Italian language knowledge at A2 level (CILS, CELI, DELI A2, PLIDA A2, or any certificate/declaration issued by a local school of Italian language in the student’s home country).

Erasmus mobility for traineeship

Courses

Visiting can undertake specific activities in the laboratories or at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Activities must be agreed in advance with the hosting tutor.

International students can attend Courses of Italian language and culture, organised by the University Language Centre, to improve their language skills during their stay.

Traineeship at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (ODV)

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital allows students to carry out a traineeship in the following Units:

  • Anaesthesia
  • Imaging
  • Large Animal Internal Medicine – Bovine
  • Large Animal Internal Medicine – Equine
  • Large Animal Reproduction
  • Small Animal Intensive Care Unit
  • Small Animal Internal Medicine
  • Small Animal Reproduction
Important Information
You must apply at least 3 months before the intended starting date.

The minimum length of traineeship in each Unit is 1 week (2 weeks are recommended) for a maximum of 36 hours per week. It is also possible to carry out the whole traineeship in only one Unit.

The traineeship will start on Mondays or Tuesdays and finish on Fridays.

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is closed for 2 weeks in August. So in these 2 weeks, hosting any Trainee is impossible. Please consider this in your Intention to Apply Form.
➤ For the year 2026: the Veterinary Teaching Hospital will close from the 10th to the 23rd of August for summer break (to be confirmed).
➤ For the year 2027: closing period not yet available.

After receiving confirmation of availability, students must send the Learning Agreement at least 2 months before the intended start date.

Before their arrival, students must schedule their welcome meeting with the International Relation Office by sending an email to international@vet.unipi.it

How to Apply:

Students must send the following documents to the International Office.

  • Intention to Apply Form, duly filled and signed (please read carefully the instructions included in the form before starting the filling).
  • Curriculum Vitae

The International Office will inform the student of the result of the Board’s evaluation.

Nomination deadline and procedures

On individual agreement – nomination for traineeship mobilities is not required.

Language requirement

English B2 level certified.

Visiting Students

The Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Pisa takes part in the Visiting Students Programme, designed for international students who wish to carry out study or research activities for a limited period within its structures.

Visiting – Short mobility

The Department of Veterinary Sciences may accept foreign students or staff from abroad who are not eligible for the “Visiting Fellow” program (stay of less than 30 days), the “Visiting Student” program (stay of less than 2 weeks), or mobility programs assigned through specific calls for proposals (including Erasmus+ KA131, Erasmus+ KA171), but who need to attend the facility for short periods for teaching or research purposes.

Visiting – Short mobility

To accommodate them, it is necessary to extend the University’s third-party liability insurance and insurance coverage for accidents they may incur on University of Pisa facilities to foreigners.

Requests for attendance at the Department of Veterinary Sciences facilities for foreigners must be addressed to the Department’s Management and forwarded to the Internationalisation Service by email at international@vet.unipi.it using the appropriate request form available on the dedicated page.

Following the proposal received, the Management will evaluate the authorisation for short-term attendance at the Department of Veterinary Sciences and will notify the undersigned and the internal tutor.
