PhD programme presentation

Goals

The program aims to train researchers with a high scientific and professional profile and the skills needed to conduct highly qualified research in public and private institutions, as well as to pursue freelance work and manage high-impact internationally. The doctoral program in Veterinary Sciences aims to train researchers with a multidisciplinary perspective, and is also open to graduates with adequate training in related disciplines such as chemistry and biology. The goal is to develop research aimed at updating and improving clinical veterinary practice, diagnostic and intervention protocols for animal diseases, and techniques for animal production and the nutritional health of various farmed and wild species. It also aims to optimize the reproductive performance of livestock and companion animals and study the effects of husbandry systems on animal welfare.

Topics and disciplinary sector

Research topics include basic scientific areas of veterinary science (VET, AGR, BIO) such as anatomy and physiology and biotechnology of animal reproduction, animal production (zootechnical sciences, nutrition, animal welfare), pathology (parasitology and pathological anatomy), clinical veterinary obstetrics, surgery, pharmacology, and veterinary toxicology. The training objectives also include the safety, quality, and valorisation of foods of animal origin.

The PhD graduate will be able to conduct research in high-tech public and private institutions in the fields of veterinary sciences and animal production, both nationally and internationally. Regarding the research undertaken in some specialized areas, clinical areas, for example, PhD students will acquire research skills in the spontaneous pathology of domestic and wild animals, utilizing the resources of the Department of Veterinary Sciences/Veterinary Teaching Hospital (outpatient clinics, clinical pathology laboratory, intensive care unit, pharmacology and toxicology laboratory, etc.). These skills can be applied both in veterinary or biological clinical research and in private institutions.

The PhD Programme is governed by the Regulations available on the University website.
