Internship MV

The internship involves the student’s participation in practical activities to be carried out at internal university facilities or at universities or public or private institutions affiliated with the Department of Veterinary Sciences, with the aim of completing the student’s theoretical, practical, and professional training

A list of companies affiliated for internships is available.

To carry out the internship at organisations not affiliated with the Department, it is necessary to follow the procedure for establishing a new agreement, which can be found on the dedicated webpage.

The Veterinary Medicine Degree Programme, as established by the Degree Programme Academic Regulations, includes a compulsory curricular internship of 30 ECTS credits (750 hours).

For the completion of the curricular internship, students must follow the Internship Procedure, which regulates the conduct of such activities; the internship application must be completed in accordance with the deadlines set out in the procedure and using the appropriate forms.

In the case of an internship carried out within the framework of ERASMUS+ projects, in addition to this procedure, the procedure indicated in the relevant call published on the University website must also be followed.

Operational Procedure for the Internship

This guide does not replace the regulations, which are recommended for more detailed information.

The Degree Programme includes a compulsory curricular internship period of 30 ECTS (750 hours).

The student may begin the internship provided that this activity does not coincide with class attendance and only if the following requirements are met:
◆ compliance with the obligations listed in the Appendix ‘List of prerequisites for enrolment in the internship‘; these requirements will be verified by the Sector Coordinator by checking the ‘Enrollment Certificate with Exams’ (available on the Alice portal), which the student will present when arranging the internship location and period;
◆ possession of the certificate related to workplace safety;
◆ possession of the medical certificate required for the completion of the internship, if applicable.

During the practical internship, the student carries out activities under the supervision of a tutor. When these activities take place outside the Department, they are supervised by a non-academic tutor, who will be properly trained. The training of the non-academic tutor constitutes an essential prerequisite for the signing of the agreement.

Regarding the training plan:

  • For external internships: the training project must be submitted through the university portal.
    The student must submit the training project to the host organisation or, in the case of organisations for which a waiver has been granted, to the Department’s Teaching Unit by appointment, which can be requested at progetti.formativi@vet.unipi.it.
  • For internal internships: the training plan must be completed using the forms provided within the Documentation corresponding to the student’s year of enrolment.
