Abstract: Antimicrobial Stewardship encompasses a set of programs aimed at monitoring and guiding the responsible use of antimicrobials in veterinary settings. Its goals include promoting the prudent use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine, reducing the selection and spread of antimicrobial resistance, preventing infections, and improving both staff training and hygiene practices within facilities. For these reasons, the main objectives of this research project are to implement Antimicrobial Stewardship procedures in the veterinary hospital, monitor antibiotic use in the Emergency and Intensive Care Unit, assess the use of critically important antibiotics (HPCIAs) as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), evaluate the appropriateness of antibiotic therapy, and finally assess the implementation of AMS at the European level.
