Peer tutoring The Peer Tutoring Service guides, informs, and supports students throughout their academic journey, providing a first point of contact for academic questions and assisting the faculty tutor. It promotes awareness of University and Department services, helps remove obstacles to course attendance, and facilitates communication with professors, administrative offices, and the Listening and Counseling Service. The activities of the Peer Mentoring Service are regulated by specific Department procedures. How do you become a peer tutor? Every year, the University publishes specific calls for applications to select peer tutors within the various Departments. These are available in the “Part-time Collaborations” section of the University website. All students enrolled in the Department’s degree programs who meet the requirements specified in the call – such as having obtained a minimum number of ECTS credits by the application deadline – are eligible to apply.Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the Alice portal, following the instructions provided in the call for applications. At the end of the procedure, a ranking of eligible candidates is drawn up according to the established criteria. In accordance with the ranking order, candidates are invited to an interview conducted by a dedicated Committee; based on the results obtained, the final ranking is approved and the positions are assigned. The list of eligible candidates, along with the date and location of the interviews, is published on the University website. Each position involves a total commitment of 150 hours, up to a maximum of 10 hours per week, of which 20 hours are dedicated to training provided by the University’s Listening and Counseling Service. The activities of the peer tutors in the Department of Veterinary Sciences are coordinated by the Department’s Peer Tutoring Coordinator. What is the purpose of the Peer Tutoring Service? The Peer Tutoring Service aims to guide, inform, and support students throughout their academic journey, promoting their active participation in the learning process and in university initiatives. Its main objectives are: providing a first point of reference for academic questions, supporting the work of the faculty tutor assigned to each student; promoting awareness of University and Department services, providing information on how to access them; helping remove obstacles that may make attending courses difficult; facilitating communication with professors, administrative and academic office staff, and the University’s Listening and Counseling Service. The tutor does not perform tasks belonging to other University roles: they do not replace administrative offices, do not replace professors, do not provide activities equivalent to private lessons, and do not offer psychological support in cases of emotional or relational issues.
