TAAEC Course Admission to the three-year Degree in Animal Breeding Techniques and Canine Education requires a secondary school diploma.The educational activities of the TAAEC Degree Program take place at the facilities of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, located at Viale delle Piagge, 2 (Pisa), and at affiliated external facilities. The main objective of the TAAEC Degree Program is to train professionals who are able to: To manage the technical, hygienic, and economic aspects of animal breeding. To manage selection and genetic improvement. Take care of aspects related to animal nutrition. To apply legislation related to the livestock and animal sector. To work in the field of animal health and welfare. Provide assistance to the veterinarian during clinical activity. To carry out biomedical laboratory techniques in the veterinary field. Taking care of the behavioral education of the dog to promote proper socialization. The degree program includes two curricula:1. Breeder and Canine Educator2. Veterinary Technician The three-years Degree in Animal Breeding Techniques and Canine Education (TAAEC) prepares its graduates with all the skills required by the L-38 Degree Class and provides the opportunity to continue studies in the Master’s Degree in Animal Production Sciences and Technologies. Graduates of TAAEC can pursue various professional careers, including those classified by ISTAT as Zootechnicians (3.2.2.2.0), Biochemical Laboratory Technicians (3.2.2.3.1), Food Products Technicians (3.2.2.3.2), and Veterinary Laboratory Technicians (3.2.2.3.3). In general, the professional profiles of graduates include functions such as: Breeding technician, working in livestock farms, wildlife-hunting companies, feed industries, and laboratories for zootechnical use. Canine educator, with roles in dog training schools, managing behavioral courses for dogs in collaboration with veterinarians, developing educational projects in compulsory schools to improve human-dog relationships, and managing animal shelters or public and private healthcare facilities. Thanks to this training, graduates of TAAEC acquire both practical and theoretical skills to successfully integrate into professional fields related to both zootechnical management and canine behavioral education. The University’s General Regulation specifies the number, composition, and methods for selecting the members.Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The Joint Committee of the Degree Program is assigned the following functions (Article 36 – Statute of the University of Pisa):• Monitor the educational offer and teaching quality, as well as the service provided to students by professors and researchers.• Identify indicators for evaluating the results of the above activities.• Formulate opinions on the activation and deactivation of the degree program.• Formulate opinions on the regulations and organization of the degree program.• Formulate opinions on the consistency between the credits assigned to educational activities and the specific objectives of the degree program.• Formulate opinions on the annual report regarding the progress of educational activities.4.2 – In relation to the ANVUR self-assessment, the Joint Committee of the Degree Program will perform its functions while considering the recommendations of the Department’s Joint Committee.4.3 – The Joint Committee may establish working groups to study or manage specific and defined topics.4.4 – The outcome of the activities performed by the Joint Committee is submitted for ratification/approval by the Degree Program Council and must be communicated to other bodies (Degree Program Councils, Department Joint Committee, Department Council).Art. 5 – Activities5.1 – The Joint Committee of the Degree Program must be operational throughout the year, maintaining communication and contact with the Department’s Joint Committee.5.2 – The meetings of the Joint Committee are convened by the President, who also sets the agenda, at least five days in advance of the scheduled date. Regulation Art. 1 – PurposeThis Regulation governs the operational procedures and defines the composition of the Internship Committee for the TAAEC Degree Program. Art. 2 – EstablishmentThe TAAEC Degree Program establishes an Internship Committee. Art. 3 – CompositionThe Internship Committee of the TAAEC Degree Program consists of at least three faculty members from the Degree Program, designated by the Degree Program Director. The President of the Committee is appointed from among the members. Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The functions of the Internship Committee are as follows:• Examine students’ internship applications, verifying their compliance with the Degree Program’s Internship Procedure, and assessing the suitability of the internship subject and the chosen structure;• Evaluate the internship activity, validate the required ECTS credits, and provide the overall internship grade;• Prepare and review the Internship Procedures annually;• Maintain and update the database of internships completed by students. 4.2 – The results of the activities performed by the Internship Committee must be recorded and sent to the Degree Program Director for registration. Art. 5 – Activities5.1 – The Internship Committee must be operational throughout the year, meeting around the deadlines set by the Degree Program’s Procedures for evaluating internship applications and internship activities, and also on other dates for extraordinary meetings to evaluate Erasmus internship applications and internship activities.5.2 – Meetings of the Internship Committee are convened by the President of the Committee, who also sets the agenda, at least five days in advance of the scheduled date. The meetings are held according to the normal rules applied to collegiate bodies. All meetings must be officially recorded. Composition Dr. Lorella Giuliotti (President) Prof. Valentina Virginia Ebani (Professor) Dr. Andrea Pirone (Professor) The Review Group, appointed by the Degree Program Director and composed of the Director, faculty members of the Degree Program, one student representative, the Head of the Teaching Unit of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, and at least one representative from the labor market, is responsible for conducting a periodic and planned process of monitoring and reviewing the educational activities of the Degree Program. The three-year Review Group, in addition to handling procedures related to the ministerial AVA accreditation—such as completing the SUA-CdL form, drafting review reports, and preparing the annual monitoring form—has initiated a discussion aimed at more clearly defining the professional profiles and employment prospects of the program. The results of the review and other activities related to the Degree Program are then discussed within the Joint Committee and the Degree Program Council, ensuring the involvement of all components. Regulation Art. 1 – PurposeThis Regulation governs the operational procedures and defines the composition of the Review Group for the TAAEC Degree Program, hereinafter referred to as the Review Group of the Degree Program in Animal Breeding Techniques and Canine Education (TAAEC). Art. 2 – EstablishmentThe Degree Program Director appoints the Review Group, which remains in office for the entire term of the Director. During the three years, in case of resignation of one of the members, the Director may appoint a substitute. Art. 3 – CompositionThe Review Group consists of the Degree Program Director (Responsible for the review), any other faculty members of the Degree Program, a student representative, the Head of the Teaching Unit, and at least one representative from the labor market. Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The Review Group is responsible for carrying out a periodic and planned review process with the aim of: Verifying the adequacy and effectiveness of the Degree Program; Investigating the causes of any unsatisfactory results in order to adopt the necessary corrective and improvement actions. The Review Group’s review activity is divided into: • The effects of corrective actions already taken in previous academic years;• Strengths and areas for improvement emerging from the analysis of quantitative data (entrance into university, regularity of the study path, entrance into the labor market, opinions of students and graduates) or from observed or reported issues in the training path;• Actions aimed at introducing corrective measures for critical elements highlighted or making improvements. 4.2 – The Review Group is responsible for preparing the review report of the Degree Program, which can be annual or cyclical. Specifically:• The annual review is prepared each year to monitor and promote the improvement of the effectiveness of educational activities, their tools, services, and infrastructure;• The cyclical review is typically prepared at intervals of several years, based on the duration of the degree program and the periodicity of accreditation, and is prepared in anticipation of a periodic accreditation visit. The report mainly highlights the continued validity of the educational objectives and the management system used by the degree program to achieve them. The cyclical review cannot replace the annual review, which must be prepared each year as the perspectives of analysis are different. In case of modifications to the Program Regulations, both the annual review and the cyclical review must be drafted. 4.3 – The parties directly and actively involved in the process of preparing the Review are:• The Review Group of the Degree Program, responsible for the review, with the function of completing the available format/template;• The Quality Manager of the Department, with the function of validating the reports of the Degree Programs within the Department;• The Department Council and Degree Program Council, with the function of approving the Degree Program reports. Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The Advisory Committee of the Degree Program is assigned the following functions:• Verify the adequacy of the graduate profiles to the needs expressed by society, the labor market, and scientific and technological research;• Examine the educational path of the Degree Program;• Provide advice and proposals for the continuous improvement of the educational path offered to students, considering the needs of the job market;• Define and revise internship activities, keeping them updated with the employment prospects for graduates;• Explore new opportunities for placing graduates of the Degree Program;• Monitor post-university careers. 4.2 – The results of the activities carried out by the Advisory Committee of the Degree Program must be communicated to the Review Group and the Degree Program Council. Art. 3 – CompositionThe Year Coordinators’ Committee of the TAAEC Degree Program is composed of three Coordinators, one for each year, including a President of the committee, appointed by the Degree Program Director from the faculty members of the Council. Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The functions of the Year Coordinators’ Committee are as follows:• Prepare the schedules for the Degree Program’s educational activities for both semesters, collaborating with the Coordinators of other Degree Programs in the Department of Veterinary Sciences and contacting individual faculty members to ensure the scheduling of lectures, laboratories, and off-site lessons without overlapping for students;• Send the final schedules to the Degree Program Director;• Check the dates of exam sessions received from the Teaching Unit and sent by the faculty members of each course. In case of overlaps, contact the faculty members;• Send the final exam schedule to the Teaching Unit and the Degree Program Director;• Collect any educational issues within their respective academic year and present them to the Degree Program Director for subsequent discussion in the Joint Committee and Degree Program Council. Art. 5 – Activities5.1 – The Year Coordinators’ Committee of the Degree Program must meet before the beginning of each semester’s educational activities to prepare the schedules and educational activities of the Degree Program. The committee must also meet to review the dates of exam sessions for each course and prepare a report on any issues encountered during the semester.5.2 – The meetings of the Committee are convened, on behalf of the Degree Program Director, by the President of the Committee, and are held according to the normal rules applicable to collegiate bodies. A report must be prepared for all meetings of the Committee, which should be properly archived and, when necessary, presented to the Council.5.3 – The Committee prepares an annual report on its activities, which will be sent to the Degree Program Director, protocolled, and then presented in the Council. Art. 2 – EstablishmentThe TAAEC Degree Program establishes a Job Placement Committee. Art. 3 – CompositionThe Job Placement Committee of the TAAEC Degree Program is composed of at least three faculty members, including a President of the Committee, appointed by the Degree Program Director. Art. 4 – Functions4.1 – The functions of the Job Placement Committee, which aims to organize two Professional Development Seminars, one per semester, are as follows:• For each seminar, identify the topic and the subjects to be addressed;• Submit the proposals to the Degree Program Council;• Contact professionals;• Prepare and correct the final tests for acquiring CFU (university credits) and send the list of students eligible for these credits to the Degree Program Director and to the Department’s Teaching Unit. Art. 5 – Activities5.1 – The Job Placement Committee of the Degree Program must meet before the start of each semester’s educational activities to establish the date of each seminar, identify the topics and subjects to be addressed, and submit them to the Degree Program Council. After approval by the Council, the Committee must contact professionals, invite them to prepare a report related to the topic (for a duration to be agreed upon), and formulate 4-5 questions each for the preparation of the test to be administered to students for the acquisition of CFU. The Committee must prepare the full test, distribute it at the end of the seminar, and correct the tests. Finally, the Committee must prepare a list of students who have passed the test and send it to the Degree Program Director and to the Department’s Teaching Unit. 5.2 – The meetings of the Job Placement Committee are convened by the President of the Committee, who also sets the agenda, at least five days before the scheduled date. Meetings are held according to the usual rules applied to collegiate bodies. Minutes of all meetings must be prepared and properly archived and, when necessary, presented to the Council. 5.3 – The Committee prepares an annual report on its activities, which is sent to the Degree Program Director, protocolled, and subsequently presented in the Council.
