Under intensive fish culture systems, fish are exposed to many stresses such as handling, vaccination, transportation, high density, and so on. To improve fish health and welfare, as a part of the project, inclusion of sedative, antioxidant and immunomodulatory products in fish diets will be tested; the effects will be detected with behavioural test (NTT, T-maze, Daniovision, Ethovision), blood analysis (stress indicators), biomolecolar and histopatological analysis of target organs. To promote a sustainable growth of the aquaculture sector, an exploration of alternative feed ingredients for fishmeal and fish oil has become necessary. For this reason, studies on the use of plant (e.g., algae meal) or animal (e.g., yeast derived by-product, insect meal, etc.) alternative protein sources, will also carried out. The possibility to use these alternative protein source will be evaluated through growth performaces, biomolecular and histological analysis.
