Quality Policy

The Department of Veterinary Sciences (DSV) expresses, through its quality policy, its objectives and general directions with respect to the three missions enshrined in the Statute of the University of Pisa: teaching, research, and third mission.

The DSV operates in accordance with European Directives 36/2005 EC and 55/2013, Italian legislation (Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004, Law no. 240 of 20 December 2010, Legislative Decree no. 19 of 27 January 2012, Ministerial Decree no. 1059 of 23 December 2013, Ministerial Decree no. 47 of 30 January 2013, Ministerial Decree no. 987 of 12 December 2016), the guidelines set forth by the AVA/ANVUR System, the Standard Operating Procedures of the European System of Evaluation of Veterinary Training (ESEVT SOP 2019), and the procedures for UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 certification for certain activities.
The DSV’s overall objective is to increase the satisfaction of students, families, the institutional and productive system, and all stakeholders with respect to the quality of education (in line with the European standards and guidelines established by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) and the services it provides to the community.

The DSV establishes and monitors the development of a strategic plan in accordance with the University of Pisa’s strategic plan. This plan sets medium- and long-term objectives consistent with its mission and is committed to achieving them through a continuous improvement strategy in compliance with the general standards established by the University of Pisa and national legislation. The DSV believes that achieving the standards established by quality management systems (AVA, ESEVT, ISO) contributes strategically to achieving internal objectives, monitoring processes and activities, and external objectives for students and stakeholders who require high-quality standards.
To this end, the DSV deems it necessary:

  • disseminate its quality policy to ensure its understanding by internal staff and third parties interested in the activities and services offered; to enable the full dissemination of its Quality Policy, the DSV undertakes to regularly publish updated information and communicate it to all interested parties;
  • Raise staff awareness of the requirements of the AVA/ESEVT/ISO 9001:2015 standards and involve them in the planning and development of the quality management system, so that they contribute to its effectiveness.

The DSV management, thanks to the 2019 AVA accreditation process, the 2022 ESEVT accreditation process, and the ongoing ISO 9001:2015 accreditation process, has established the following general objectives and indicated the ways to achieve them using the available tools:

  1. Offer a high level of education through innovative teaching methods and tools, continuously reviewing teaching programs and developing a coherent training
    path;
  2. Support research activities in various fields of Veterinary Sciences, including One Health, the human-animal relationship, the sustainability of livestock production, and multifunctionality in
    agriculture;
  3. Improve the quality of services offered by the DSV through codified, formalised, and publicly available procedures.
