Establishing an internship agreement

The curricular internship is the placement undertaken by a student enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, master’s programmes, doctoral programmes, and specialty schools.
Each individual internship may have a maximum duration of 12 months, including extensions, except as provided by regulations for students with disabilities.

The curricular internship can be carried out exclusively at internal Department facilities or at affiliated external facilities.

The procedures and forms for carrying out curricular internships within the degree programmes in Veterinary Medicine (MV), Animal Breeding Techniques and Dog Education (TAAEC), Animal Production Sciences and Technologies (STPA), and Sustainable Livestock Systems (SZS) are available on the Internship pages of the respective courses.

Curricular internship at Partner Companies

For the completion of a curricular internship at internal facilities of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, it is necessary to prepare the “Internal Training Project”.

For curricular internships at external institutions, a list of external companies that have signed agreements for curricular internships is available. The participating companies/institutions already have access credentials to the University Portal for managing “Training Projects.”

For further information and contacts, please refer to the Academic Unit at the email address:  pratiche.studenti@vet.unipi.it.

Curricular internship at non-Partner Companies

To carry out a curricular internship at non-affiliated Companies/Institutions, it is necessary for the Company/Institution to submit a proposal for establishing a new agreement for curricular internships.
The proposal must be submitted by accessing the dedicated University portal, in the section reserved for Companies/Institutions, selecting “Proposal for an agreement with a University Department for curricular internships” and then choosing the “Department of Veterinary Sciences”.
The procedure for completing the agreement is guided.

Foreign Companies/Entities

In the case of foreign Companies/Institutions, agreements are not managed through the portal and may be proposed by Department faculty using the designated forms.
The proposing faculty member must send the following documentation to the Department Management and to the email address convenzioni.tirocinio@vet.unipi.it.

  1. Training Agreement proposal;
  2. Declaration from the legal representative of acknowledgment and acceptance of the Tutor training document (ITA formENG form), signed in original;
  3. Presentation documentation from the Foreign Company/Organisation

The proposal will be discussed by the Department Council and, if approved, the agreement will be formalized according to the Training Agreement example.

Private Companies/Entities

Once registered on the Portal, the following documents must reach the Department of Veterinary Sciences (by post, courier, registered mail, etc., or delivered by hand):

  • 2 copies of the agreement (the text of the agreement is generated by the portal once registration is complete), both stamped and signed in original;
  • 2 copies of the Company/Organisation (the text of the company profile is generated by the portal once registration is complete), both stamped and signed in original;
  • 1 copy of the legal representative’s declaration regarding tutor training, stamped and signed in original – form;
  • 2 revenue stamps of 32.00 euros each.

In the event of approval by the Department Council, the two originals of the agreement will be signed by the Department Director, and one stamped original of the agreement, together with the credentials to be used for the online submission of Training Projects related to curricular internships, will be returned to the Company/Institution.
In the event of non-approval by the Department Council, the two originals of the agreement, together with the stamps, will be returned.

Public Institutions

Once registration on the Portal has been completed, the following documents must be submitted to the Department of Veterinary Sciences via certified email (PEC):

  • the agreement (text of the agreement generated by the portal once registration is completed), digitally signed by the legal representative of the Institution;
  • the information sheet of the Entity (text of the sheet generated by the portal once the registration is completed), digitally signed by the legal representative of the Entity;
  • the legal representative’s declaration regarding tutor training, stamped and digitally signed by the legal representative of the institution – form;
  • 1 stamp duty of 32.00 paid virtually.

Once all the documentation related to the proposed agreement has been received, it will be submitted for approval to the Department Council at the next available meeting (the council usually meets once a month).

In the event of approval by the Department Council, the text of the agreement will be digitally signed by the Director of the Department and returned to the public entity via certified email (PEC), together with the credentials to be used for the online submission of the training projects related to curricular internships.
In the event of non-approval by the Department Council, the public entity will be notified via certified email (PEC).

Once the training objectives have been defined with the academic tutor and the intern, the Company/Institution enters the data required to complete the training project on the Portal, accessing the reserved area with its credentials. By way of exception, enrollment may take place at the Teaching Unit, by appointment, only for Companies/Institutions authorised by the Director and listed on the Teaching Unit page.

Once the procedure is completed, the training project must be finalized, made definitive, and printed in three originals, signed by the academic tutor, the company tutor, and the intern to signify acceptance.
Next to the tutors’ signatures, the respective stamps of the department and the company must be affixed.

One original must be submitted to the Teaching Unit of the Department of Veterinary Sciences (Viale delle Piagge location) during office hours, in compliance with the deadlines and methods set forth in the regulations. After activation, the intern may begin the internship and submit the second original to the company; the intern must retain the third.

Obligations of the External Tutor

The “External Tutor” is the figure responsible for guiding the intern during the practical internship when carried out at a “Host Organization”.  Therefore, their training is essential to ensure the proper acquisition of skills by the intern. In this regard, a document has been prepared for the training of the external tutor, titled the ‘Tutor Training Document“. It is therefore necessary that, at the time of signing the Agreement for Curricular Internships with the Department of Veterinary Sciences, the Legal Representative of the hosting Company/Entity signs the specific declaration, attesting both that they have read and accepted the contents of the aforementioned “Tutor Training Document” and that they commit to disseminate it and ensure that it is made available to all those who will act as “External Tutors” at the Company/Entity they legally represent.
